During the Vancouver 2010 games, it was hard not to get caught up in the excitement of Alexander Bilodeau's craftsmanship on the moguls or Sean White's creativity and courage in the half-pipe.
Whether or not you are a sports fan who prefers traditional athletics, such as hockey or football, there is no denying that
'extreme sports' are here to stay and there is a wave of them that is growing in popularity among today's youth.
This week's ExerciseToronto.Com athlete of the week, Patrick Switzer, is one of these extreme athletes... And after getting to know him a little bit, it's clear that the passion he has for his sport, is larger than Toronto's biggest Leaf fan!

It goes without saying that training to be a strongman competitor, at any level, is a lot of hard work.
To succeed, an individual must have an intense desire to excel at their sport and be dedicated daily to improving their overall strength and conditioning.
A positive attitude and strong will, as well as the devotion of many long hours in the gym are all instrumental in determining the success of a strongman.
We got in touch with Toronto based strongman, Team Barbarian member and this week’s Exercise Toronto athlete of the week, Josh Hewett, to find out a little bit more about his career, future goals and exactly what it takes to be a successful strong man competitor.

If you’re even a casual fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs or the NHL in general, there is a good chance that you know who Pat Burns is.
The former Maple Leafs coach became an ‘A’ list celebrity in Toronto after coaching the Maple Leafs to the Western Conference finals in 1993, only to lose in seven games to Wayne Gretzky and the Los Angles Kings.
While 1993, and the success of the Maple Leafs might seem like ancient history, lately, there has been a overwhelming push by hockey fans all over North America to induct Burns into the hockey hall of fame as he continues to fight, what looks to be, a losing battle against lung cancer.
Since mid-March, over 50,000 members have joined a Toront

Like many other Toronto area residents, I woke up on March 18th (the day after St. Patrick’s Day) feeling a little bit groggy. As I went through the motions of my day, I prepared for my interview with this week’s Exercise Toronto athlete of the week, Joe Eigo.
After speaking with Joe for just over twenty minutes, I hung up the phone not feeling tired and groggy, but feeling rejuvenated, eager and passionate about the rest of my day.
I immediately laced up my cross trainers and headed out on a 7km trail run... Joe Eigo has that effect on people.
Although I do not know Joe personally, and the extent of our relationship does not go beyond that twenty minutes we spent on the phone, I can tell you that h

Toronto is so well known for its diversity, green space, fine cuisine and great night life. While these characteristics tend to dominate our conversations when discussing our beautiful city, Toronto also holds claim to some of the most eye catching and enjoyable running and walking routes in urban North America.
To better showcase, these hidden gems we present the Exercise Toronto ‘
run of the week.’
This week’s run is a favorite of Exercise Toronto follower, Dave. An avid Toronto runner, Dave has taken on pretty much every run Toronto has thrown at him.
It’s a 7km loop that is almost entirely on roads. Pretty quick and simple. The run will sta

This past Sunday, March 14th marked the 11th annual St Patrick’s Day Run & Walk.
Facing high winds, rain and the wrong side of day light savings time, over 2,000 Toronto based exercisers showed up to tackle a 5km urban course that offered support for the non-profit organization, Achilles Canada.
Achilles Canada encourages people with disabilities to participate in running and exercise-related activities. The St. Patrick’s Day event has grown into the hallmark of the organization’s fundraising initiatives.
This year’s event sold out for the fifth consecutive year and included not only a 5km race, but a complimentary post-race beer provided by the Steam Wh

Skiing? Not likely. Ice Skating? Don’t think so. What about tobogganing? Not this March Break.
Officially spring does not start until March 21st, but this year Mother Nature has decided to speed things up and has given Toronto area residents the luxury of ‘the big melt’ a few weeks in advance.
As a result if you’re a Toronto area exerciser, you’re either counting your lucky stars for the cleared walkways and warm weather (perfect for running or cycling), or damning globally warming for taking away your weekend pond hockey game.
With weather forecasts calling for no temperatures below zero and a mix of showers and sun over the next week, it’s
