As Spring approaches it’s time to get back outside and start enjoying that warming weather. Perhaps there is no better way to mark this occasion than the annual St Patrick’s Day, 5km Run & Walk in support of Achilles Canada, taking place March 14th at the Steam Whistle Brewery.
An annual event for 11 years now, the St Patrick’s Day, Run & Walk has grown into a staple event for exercise-enthusiasts from all over the Greater Toronto Area.
This year, event organizer, Brian Mclean is expecting close to 1,500 participants to show up for a fun filled morning in support of a good cause. Expected to sell out for the fifth consecutive year, the race will also include a complimentary post-race beer provided by Steam Whistle, a chili cook off for all participants to sample and live Irish-rock music courtesy of Toronto – based band, Birling.
Achilles Canada is a non-profit organization that encourages people with disabilities to participate in running and exercise-related activities. The St. Patrick’s Day event has grown into the hallmark of the organization’s fundraising initiatives.
It goes without saying that an event of this magnitude requires an abundance of planning to achieve success. Mclean and the Achilles Canada staff began planning in September and won’t stop until the morning of the run. Mclean credits the hard-work of over 150 volunteers who “are integral to the success of the event” for allowing everything to run smoothly.
