St. Patricks Day Run – Toronto

This past Sunday, March 14th marked the 11th annual St Patrick’s Day Run & Walk.

Facing high winds, rain and the wrong side of day light savings time, over 2,000 Toronto based exercisers showed up to tackle a 5km urban course that offered support for the non-profit organization, Achilles Canada.

Achilles Canada encourages people with disabilities to participate in running and exercise-related activities. The St. Patrick’s Day event has grown into the hallmark of the organization’s fundraising initiatives.

This year’s event sold out for the fifth consecutive year and included not only a 5km race, but a complimentary post-race beer provided by the Steam Whistle brewey, a chili cook off for all participants and live Irish-rock music courtesy of Toronto – based band, Birling.

It goes without saying that an event of this magnitude required an abundance of planning to achieve success.

Tournament director, Brian Mclean and the Achilles Canada staff began planning in September and didn’t stop until the morning of the run. Mclean credits the hard-work of over 150 volunteers who “were integral to the success of the event” for allowing everything to run smoothly.

The ExerciseToronto.Com staff was on hand and was also a proud sponsor of the event.

This year saw some staff members achieve personal best times in the 5k and created memories that will last a lifetime.

We want to thank Achilles Canada, Steam Whistle Brewery and all other sponsors and volunteers for an event, that despite the weather, was a great time and a true home run!
