Skiing? Not likely. Ice Skating? Don’t think so. What about tobogganing? Not this March Break.
Officially spring does not start until March 21st, but this year Mother Nature has decided to speed things up and has given Toronto area residents the luxury of ‘the big melt’ a few weeks in advance.
As a result if you’re a Toronto area exerciser, you’re either counting your lucky stars for the cleared walkways and warm weather (perfect for running or cycling), or damning globally warming for taking away your weekend pond hockey game.
With weather forecasts calling for no temperatures below zero and a mix of showers and sun over the next week, it’s expected that this snow free trend will carry on until the start of spring – and well into it.
All over the Greater Toronto Area residents are dusting off their running shoes to take advantage of this and are expected to fill the city’s parks and green-space over this year’s March Break.
For parents, this means their kids will get outside to give Mom and Dad a break from the increase in noise and household activity… It also means the introduction of the all to famous ‘mud season’– that time of year when you can’t do anything in the woods or on the grass without the fear of getting covered in mud.
A definite ‘catch-22’ for Toronto parents.
Whatever your views are on the unusually warm March weather, there is one thing Toronto area residents can be sure of: Expect all the earthy smells of spring – from dog poop to rotting garbage to assault your nasal passages over the next few weeks… Something that we’re probably all used to after last summer’s Toronto city workers strike.
We at Exercise Toronto wish you all the best and hope that you enjoy the week ahead. Winter has come and gone, so dust off those shorts and get outside to enjoy our beautiful city!
